​Hill Barn Golf Club Men's Section

New members are welcome to volunteer for and will be considered to play in, Club matches against other clubs. Our Club matches are all friendlies (although some do have trophies to play for) and will give you an opportunity to play some other excellent local courses – always good fun! In 2021 we are scheduled to play 22 matches against 10 other local golf Clubs. 

These are home and away matches each year against Chichester, West Hove, East Brighton, Slinfold, Southampton, Horton Park, Cottesmore & Portsmouth.  Once a year, alternately home and away, we play The Dyke. We also play Worthing once a year, with teams of six at each venue at the same time, normally a Monday afternoon in June.
 

A notice for each match is placed on the Notice board at least two to four weeks in advance and anyone wishing to play is invited to add their name to the list.  The Club Captain and Vice-Captain will pick each team of 12 players and will try to be inclusive in selecting teams to give as many as possible a chance to play. Matches are mainly played on a 4 ball better ball basis. Most matches will have a breakfast before the match and sandwiches afterwards. There will generally be a small presentation after the conclusion of the match. There is a nominal charge for the Club Matches, which covers the cost of catering.

We currently only have one match, The Herald Shield which is played against Worthing Golf Club, where there is a formal dinner after the match which is shirt and tie. All others are informal and on the whole, golf wear is acceptable. Matches that include food do incur a match fee which is set at the AGM.
